It is great to be able to get
in touch with old classmates. Most I have lost track of over the years.
As some of you may know, Chance
died of a massive heart attack two years ago November. I still can't believe
that he is really gone...I thought we would grow old together and stroll
the beach together in our nineties! But, plans don't always go our way.
I'm sure he is happy, healthy, and smiling down at all of us.
We had moved to Houston, Texas
in 1994. Chance was in the trucking industry all his working life - and
Texas is great truck country. We both loved the area and I have stayed.
I teach high school English to sophomores and seniors and am English department
chairman. Fool that I am, I still love English and teenagers...must mean
there is something wrong with me! I think I will continue to teach for
several more years.
We have three daughters - two
of whom live in Houston. The oldest - Mandy - is a pharmaceutical sales
rep and now has a nine month old baby girl. She and her husband Danny
met in college in North Carolina and have been married six years now.
Our middle daughter, Maria, still lives in N.C. up in the mountains -
we will never blast her out of there. It is beautiful country and she
loves cold and snow...certainly things we don't have in Houston. She has
a four year old daughter...no grandsons in this family...at least not
yet. Our youngest daughter, Marlo, is an English teacher - in the same
system I teach in. She has only been teaching two years and is married
to a local Texan. It is wonderful to have the children so close - they
have been what has kept me sane!
I plan to be at the reunion in
September...What fun!
