The motivation for the creation of this
page is a combination of Jim Humphrey's recollection of his "dream
for the future" with Larry Gentner; Chuck and Karen's very well-done,
humorous, sad, and insightful web pages; and the excitement about finding
everyone from the Class of '62. I REALLY had to stretch the brain muscles
to try and remember what it was that I wanted to be when I grew up and
try to remember where I've been for the last 38 years! So here goes.
After attending ISU, I married in 1966.
1966-67 I worked at IU while Steve went to grad school. Steve was hired
by Eli Lilly in 1967 and worked 3 months before getting drafted into the
Army. I worked at Lilly while he was in Vietnam, 1968-69. Lilly transferred
us to Orlando, FL in 1969. Two daughters were born in 1970 & 1976.
1979 we moved to Midlothian, VA (outside Richmond). Then back to Indy
in 1981. Following a divorce in 1986, I went back to work after 16 years
of being a "stay-at-home mom." What a culture shock! Worked
for a small book publisher for 10 years, 4 of those as a production editor.
In 1996 I started working for one of the
oldest community foundations in the US and was promoted this year to Gift
Planning Officer. I am very fortunate to have a job that I love and to
have the opportunity to help individuals accomplish their philanthropic
wishes. One of the perks of my job is to help people start family endowment
funds to get their children and grandchildren involved in giving back
to the community

My oldest daughter, Peggy, has been married
5 years and now lives in Boston. She does DNA synthesis for a pre-IPO
company. Her husband, Matt, is working on his post-doctoral in molecular
biology, doing heart research at Harvard. They are looking forward to
leaving Boston in the next year. Youngest daughter, Sandy, is a co-op
student majoring in wildlife science at North Carolina State University
in Raleigh. This summer she is working for the US Fish & Wildlife
Service at Archie Carr National Refuge on the east coast of Florida where
she is collecting data on sea turtles. Last year she was on the Service's
research and rescue team for manatees on the west coast of Florida. I'm
learning so much about the world from my daughters and son-in-law!!

I spend most of my time "on the road."
I live in Carmel, work in downtown Indy, and help take care of my mother
in Plainfield twice a week. It became very important to me and my sisters
that we give Mom a quality of life that we would be proud of. Therefore,
she is still living at home and has caregivers staying with her.
My primary goal is to take advantage of
every opportunity that comes my way. Suddenly it has become very clear
how old I am! I love to travel, play euchre (only because you can carry
on a conversation at the same time) and work in my flower garden. For
total relaxation, I hop on a plane heading south, sit on the beach with
my feet in the water and a good book in my hands!
There are 3 cats living at my house. I
don't claim them.Somehow my daughters moved way and left their pets behind
with the promise to come back and get them! I'm still waiting.

After days and days of concentrating, I
finally remembered what I wanted to do when I grew up. My high school
dream was to become a professional water skier at Cypress Gardens! I still
haven't accomplished that dream, but who knows, there still may be time
.
