As I read Jim Humphrey's life history in
laughter, I realized that he cleverly disproved the old adage that you
can never go home. Thirty-eight years is indeed a very long time. I will
attempt to give you the 2 minute run-down of what I have been up to.
Let's see...I managed to graduate from
the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1967. Went into the Army
and then on to Viet Nam in 1968. After returning from Nam, I went to the
University of Wisconsin in Madison where I studied real estate investment
analysis. Got married in Wisconsin. Then returned to Buffalo, NY to find
a job.
After a couple of years, we moved to Springfield,
Ohio and later Cleveland, Ohio to work for a savings & loan. It is
since defunct. I moved to Tampa, FL in 1981 as a 'work-out' officer for
a small bank that bit the dust 6 months later. Went to work for Atlantic
Bank in Tampa. First Union bought Atlantic in 1985. Following a divorce
in 1993, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where I still live.
I have two (2) grown children, Kristina
and Karl. Kristina is an attorney who very recently moved to Washington,
DC. Karl is a post production recording engineer. In 1996 I told Karl
that he could come stay with me for a year. It's been a long year - he's
still here! Of course there is an advantage in having a computer literate
son, who can show old Dad how to hook up e-mail (on son's computer). This
may be the year that I finally become an empty nester!
I think that about covers it, except to
say that I appreciate the initiative that has made this electronic reunion
possible. Through it I have rediscovered old friends. Turns out that Chuck
Danner has been here in Atlanta for more than 10 years! Sometimes it's
a small world. Chuck and I had dinner a week ago and had a great time
reminiscing about the old days. I hope to hear from all of you.
