New Years Eve

What fun it will be to continue friendships
that began 'a few years back'! I loved going to school in the same system
for twelve years and will always cherish those experiences and friendships.
After graduating from PHS, I started my
nursing studies at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor but quickly
realized I did not like being that far away from home and dropped out
to begin the second semester at Indiana University.
In the fall of 1963 my brother, Bill, introduced
me to David Klipsch, a fraternity brother at IU. We were married in the
fall of 1964 and while David worked at American Fletcher National Bank,
I finished my BSN at the Medical Center in Indianapolis and began my nursing
career at the VA Hospital. A call from an old friend soon led me to John
Marshall High School where I was a school nurse for a year. It was quite
an experience as 'boys will be boys' and many came to the nurse's office
with vague symptoms in hopes the nurse would let them lie down for a period
or two. It usually worked!
I left nursing to become a full-time mother,
first to Kim (1968) and then to Mark (1971). We lived in Indianapolis
until 1971 when David was offered a position at Winter's Bank in Dayton,
OH. We subsequently moved to Louisville, KY in 1975 and to Omaha, NE is
1982.

I had
thought Indianapolis would remain our home forever since at that time,
bankers were not transferred. However, he was recruited to these cities
to assume better positions. We thoroughly enjoyed whatever city we happened
to be in, but Omaha became our real home. What a delightful place! We
lived very close to the University of Nebraska at Omaha where I began
taking courses in accounting ( just for the fun of it) but soon was asked
to volunteer and did not pursue any more classes.
The volunteer experiences I had were varied
and enriching. When we had our 25th reunion, I was active in a drug and
resource information organization for parents and youth. After that I
volunteered for everything from helping clothe children for school to
helping animals at the humane society (where we adopted our wonder dog,
Dudley) to working as gift shop chairman at the medical center plus serving
on many committees for our church.

One of the most rewarding experiences,
however, was my involvement with the Alzheimer's Association of Omaha
and Eastern Nebraska. Not only did it raise money for education and respite
care, but also it helped me through my mother's 12-year battle with the
disease, which ended in February 2000. (Dad passed away in 1992.)
David retired in 1995 on his 54th birthday
and started enjoying life to the fullest. His one complaint about Omaha
was that he couldn't play golf all winter. Since I can quilt anytime of
the year, we decided to look for a winter home. We found Ft. Worth, TX
and did not look any farther. It is a warm, caring city and our home is
only 20 minutes from downtown. I volunteer at the Harris Methodist Hospital
as the gift shop chairman and at Rocky Top Therapy and Recreation Center.
Rocky Top provides horse therapy to people of all ages who have a multitude
of problems. Horses seem to instinctively know what is required of them
and certainly are one of the noblest beasts on earth!

As you can see from the pictures, I also
have two adorable grandchildren (from our daughter) who live 30 minutes
away. (Maybe that had some bearing on our decision to retire here!) Mark
and his beautiful wife, Rani (her parents are from India but she was born
and raised in Indiana) live in the New York City area and are hoping to
start a family soon.
I am looking forward to our next reunion
and am delighted that we will be keeping in touch in the meantime.
